Labour Party policy on new Firearms Act (1997)

I received this e-mail in reply to my query about Labour Party policy now they are in government. As you can see, implied are amendments to the new Firearms Act that would add further "controls."

Thank you for your e-mail message

Labour is committed to a free vote on thr banning of all handguns, including .22 calibre handguns. I am lead to beleive that this will be contained in the Queen's Speech tomorrow. During the passage of the 1996 Firearms (Amendment) Bill, Labour pressed for certification of air guns, raising the age limit for buying and using guns and consideration of a ban on replica guns. The Tories rejected these proposals.

I hope this answers your questions
